Joseph Benjamin Blow Sr. was the second child born to Johnny and Annie Mae Blow on May 30, 1922 in Simsboro, Louisiana. At the age of 14 his family moved to Marshall, Texas where he joined New Bethel Baptist Church and remained until his death.

After graduating from Central High School, Joseph was inducted into the United States Army's 455th Aviation Squadron in 1942.  He served in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign of World War II and received an Honorable Discharge in 1946.

In August 1947, he married Willie Sue Elizabeth Cooper. To this union eight children were born.  After marriage, he worked several jobs, including store keeper, baker, taxi driver, and truck driver for Thiokol Ammunition Plant where he retired.  He lived an active agricultural life style, raising hogs and cattle throughout his adult life, and rarely seen without his boots and cowboy hat.  He shared his knowledge as an active Boy Scout leader and 4-H sponsor.  He was also a member of American Legion Post 878 and active in the New Town Neighborhood Association.

Joseph Benjamin Blow Sr. departed this life for his "new life" on December 14, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, stepfather (I.D Houston), and sister, Bertha Mae (Blow) Bailey.

He leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Ruth Criner (Joe) of Marshall, Texas, Breta Jones (Donnell) of Katy, Texas and Sarah Bush (Bobby) of Marshall, Texas; five sons, Joseph Blow Jr. (Mary) of Houston, Texas, Don Blow Sr. of Carrollton, Texas, Carl Bow (Darletta) of Arlington, Texas, Willie Blow (Paula) of Commerce, Texas and John Blow (Helene) of Buchanan, Georgia; half brother Toy Edward Blow of Bienville, Louisiana; 29 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service for Mr. Blow will be held at 11:00a.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6-8p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Downs Funeral Home.
