Obituary

Funeral Services for Joseph P. Welick, 71, of Gilmer, TX, will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 11 AM at Cornerstone Cemetery in Harleton, TX. Joseph Peter Welick, born in Woodbury, CT was proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Martha Welick and his loving wife Alva Mae Welick. Joseph Peter Welick was survived by his loving wife, Gail Ford Welick; his four children, Beverly George, Robert Hollandsworth, Deborah Johnson, Rebekah Wills; and his four grandchildren, Douglas Johnson, Michael Johnson, Caleb Johnson & Julie Hollandsworth Bushyhead; and many lifelong friends from around the world. Joseph Welick was a retired military hero from both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received the Meritorious Commendation of Good Conduct; the National Defense Service Medal for the Vietnam War; and the expeditionary Armed Forces Medal with Bronze Star from the Korean War. He traveled all over the world in the military. After retiring from the military, he served in several mission fields in India, Nigeria, and Sri Lanka building churches, schools, orphanages and feeding centers. He worked tirelessly to spread the Good News of Jesus, seeing thousands saved and healed and baptizing them in Jesus name. Joseph Welick loved his family and never missed a family gathering. He walked each daughter down the isle, he saw all his grandchildren graduate high school and college. He loved walks on the beach, he loved fishing, he loved riding on the tractor and working in the garden, he loved garage sales and good-willing on Saturdays, but mostly you would find him with a tool in his hand tinkering to fix something. He loved to help at the church and would often prepare the weekly bulletin or a pot of beans for the luncheon. He showed loved love and kindness to everyone he met.
