A memorial service for Joyce Minatrea, 84, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. A time for visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the funeral home. Mrs. Minatrea passed away on December 30, 2021, in Marshall, Texas.

She was born on March 25, 1937, to Houston T. and Lola Ridgeway Dossett in Rusk, Texas. She grew up and attended school in Marshall, Texas where she met and married the love of her life, Larry D. Minatrea on December 23, 1954. Together they built a family of multiple generations and were loved dearly by all. She and Larry were known for helping anyone who needed a place to stay. They had an undeniable love for each other and were married 60 years when Larry preceded her in death in 2015. After 6 long years they are together again.

She was a beautician for over 40 years working beside many family members at Dewey's beauty shop on Popular Street in Marshall. She and her sister Dot were responsible for making Marshall's women beautiful for years. She had many loyal customers who were with her for many years. They shared their good times and bad times, tears and joy over the years. Many of her clients loved her like family and she loved them right back.

She took pride in her boys and grandkids. She was her happiest when surrounded by her large family and she never failed to feed them all before they went home. She never met a baby she couldn't soothe or a toddler she didn't make smile. She loved animals, especially dogs and was known to doctor and feed any kind of stray or injured animal back to health.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her infant son Larry Wayne; her parents, Houston and Lola; her sister, Dorothy aka Dot Trousedale Hartsell; her brothers, Elbert Dossett and Taylor Dossett; and her daughter-in-law, Connie Minatrea.

She left to cherish her memory her boys; Randy (Susie), Ronny (Sandy), Rory (Gwen) and Robby Minatrea; grandchildren Rachelle (Daniel) Mathis, Rory, Jr. (Angie) Minatrea, Ronny, Jr. (Nicole) Minatrea, Becky Valen, Ryan Minatrea, Russell (Star) Minatrea, Kristy (John) Oney, Lacy (Aaron) Vaughn, Robyn (Ryan) Walley, Robert (Anny) Minatrea, Rudye (Josh) Trice, Eli Orms, Dustin Minatrea and J.T. Minatrea; 31 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren with one on the way; sister Opal Curry and brother, Dewey Dossett.

Nobody could sport big hair and huge earrings like Mimmy. She made killer scrambled hamburgers and did it all with her makeup done and jewelry on. There will never be another Mimmy and her family was so blessed to have had her.
