Obituary

A memorial service for Karla Holloway Irvine, 68, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2023, at the funeral home.

Karla was born on July 5th 1955, in Longview, Texas and was the youngest child of Clifton Cook Holloway and Geraldean Sandlin and passed away on July 29, 2023, in Tyler, Texas.

She met and married Mark Irvine in 1982. They welcomed their daughter Emily in 1983 and their son Will in 1985. They moved to the Grand Bluff community in Panola County in 1987 and resided there until 2006 when they moved back to Marshall, Texas.

In her "younger" days, her hobbies included playing in numerous softball and bowling leagues.  As she grew older, she developed a love for traveling, especially if it involved riding a train.  She enjoyed numerous vacations with her family and friends throughout the years.  Some of her favorite trips were visiting with Amish friends in Pennsylvania.  She never passed by a Buc-ee's without stopping and built-up quite the collection of Buc-ee's t-shirts.

Beginning in 2008, she became known as KarKar to her niece's three children, and she never missed a chance to see them, or as she called them, her "babies." If you knew Karla, you know she NEVER met a stranger! She loved talking to everyone even if she didn't know them.

Proceeding her in death are her parents, Clifton and Geraldean Holloway; her oldest sister Kathy Drush and her beloved fur baby, Beethoven.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mark Irvine; son, Will Irvine; daughter, Emily Roeder and husband Josh; her sister, Karen Kuykendall; nephew Eric Kuykendall and family, Taryn and Jace, nephew, Lance Kuykendall and family Giselle, Nathan, and Leila; niece, Mandy Harris and husband Carl and of course her three "babies" Addison, Hayden, and Emma along with other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the local Animal Shelter.
