In her 70s, she began private sitting with "old people" as she put it at numerous nursing homes and assisted living facilities. At the age of 92 after a brief stay in North Pole, Alaska, deciding it was too cold there, she scheduled her flights and taxis and returned to Marshall, TX, and entered Marshall Manor nursing home. She was a long-time member of Bel Air Baptist church and Port Caddo Baptist church.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Shelly Fleming Jr. in 1986; her husband, John McGuire in 1999; her son, Kenneth in 2015 and her daughter, Diana in 2022.
