Larry W.
Edge
Jun 5, 1943 — Mar 29, 2024
Marshall
Larry Wayne Edge, born on June 5, 1943, at 80 years of age, went to be with Jesus on March 29, 2024.
He is survived by his brother, Mike Edge, his wife, Jeanie, and their son, Shawn Edge, and family. His eldest daughter, Kelly Edge, and granddaughter, Kodi Edge, along with her husband, Mylan Marble, and their children. His daughter, Casie Eeds, and her husband, Alex, and grandsons, Elijah and Lakai. His son, Justin Edge, and his wife, Chelsea, and grandchildren, Madylan, Clayton and Channing. His youngest daughter, Lindsey Chandler, and her husband, Scott, and grand puppy, Macy.
Larry was born and raised in Texas. His passion for music inspired his decision to get his master's degree at East Texas State University and to become a band director. He played all the band instruments at a high level and flowed in sculpting sound and bringing military marches to life through his students.
He often said that working at Sabine High School, at the beginning of his career, was one of the most fun and enjoyable of his lifetime. Mr. Edge would travel and live all over Texas throughout his tenure, leading many to acquire successful scores and achievements. He was awarded Teacher of the Year, while at La Vega (Waco) and New Diana, and went on to teach at Kilgore, Fredericksburg, Pittsburg, Carthage and Tatum. He retired from Shelbyville High School in 2012, a place he spoke of with pride and held in high regard.
He went on to teach and play music his entire life, currently serving as an Adjunct Professor and teaching private lessons at Panola College until a couple of weeks ago. Music was his passion, and his final performance as Director was on March 7, 2024.
Larry was an avid reader and had his own personal librarian! He enjoyed fishing and golf in his spare time and eating a tasty meal with his family. Also, a master storyteller, he skillfully used his wit and charm to draw you in. He loved to sit back and take his time sharing them, some tales taller than others! (We still aren't sure if there is an Indian princess in our family lineage or not!)
Larry touched many lives because of his love of music, and his legacy will live on through us all.
