Funeral services for Larry Polk, 72 of Elysian Fields will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday October 15, 2011 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. David Rice officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Grove Hill Cemetery in Pelican, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday October 14, 2011 at the funeral home. Mr. Polk passed away October 13, 2011 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Larry Polk was born July 12, 1939 in Marthaville, Louisiana to Ira H. Polk and Mary Hinton Polk. He married Janie S. Wade on June 20, 1959 in Zimmerman, Louisiana. Larry was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church and worked as a meter serviceman for the City of Shreveport Water Department for 20 years. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Surviving Larry are his wife of 52 years, Janie Polk of Elysian Fields; three sons, Randy Polk and wife Denise of Shreveport, LA, Ricky Polk of Elysian Fields, and Rusty Polk of Jasper, TX; two daughters, Tanyua Ford of Elysian Fields and Tifany DePresca and husband John of Shreveport, LA; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Claudette Jones of Dry Prong, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cecil and Jerry Polk and two sisters, Elsie Rothenberger and Marie Jackson.
