Funeral services for Laura "Babaw" Rook, 91, of Waskom, TX, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014, at New Hebron Baptist Church, Waskom, TX with Bro. Joe Sherwin and Bro. Eric Peyton officiating. Interment will follow in Panola Mt. Zion Cemetery, Panola, TX. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2014 at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, TX. Mrs. Rook passed away December 15, 2014 in Shreveport, LA. Nannie Laura "Babaw" Williams Rook was born February 25, 1923 in Geneva, TX to George L. and Abbie Lola Mason Williams. Laura married J.D. Rook on September 21, 1940, and he preceded her in death. She was a loving Christian wife, and loving mother of 5. Laura was a member of New Hebron Baptist Church, and had worked for Elysian Fields School System as Cafeteria Supervisor. She was famous for her 14 inch pies. Laura loved everybody. Surviving Mrs. Rook are her children, Jerry Dean Rook and wife Kathy, Mary Louise Rook Kendrick and Jimmy Lee Rook and wife Karla;daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Rook; grandchildren, Stephen Rook, Lisa Rook Nichols, Lin Rook Cline, Brian Rook, David Rook, Janet Rook Ritter, Patrick Allen Rook,Brandi Pierce, Micki Rook Martin, Jesse Rook, Allen Holland, Jim Holland, Jenny Holland and Karleigh Rook; 22 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; other extended family and friends. Mrs. Rook was preceded in death by her parents, George and Abbie Williams; her husband, J. D. Rook; and 2 sons, Bobby Gene Rook and Richard Allen Rook. Pallbearers will be David Calhoun, Larry Goswick, Howard Hall, Marvin Crouch, Bobby Lindsey and Owen Carroll. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Wasdin, James Youngblood, James Tiller, Lane Vail and Eric Peyton.
