On Friday, May 3, 2013 at 12:30 p.m., the angels swept down and took our wife, mother, and grandmother to the throne of God. With tears we watched her slip away while at the same time praising God for taking away her suffering of this world. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in January of this year. After only a few short months, God took her pain and sickness and welcomed her to her new body. She is now having a joyous reunion with so many that have gone before. We would love to have her here a little longer, but are so thankful that her pain and sickness did not linger. If you have experienced her love and friendship, you know that God would not have allowed her to suffer long. She was always concerned with the happiness of her family and friends, putting herself last in everything she ever did. A true example of a Christian and the path we should all take in serving others. Laura was born June 26, 1942 in Marshall, the daughter of Frank B. and Julia Moore Morgan. She was raised in Marshall and attended school there. She also attended Panola Junior College. For thirty years she worked for Jordan Health Services in Longview. She had a sincere dedication to her work and loved and cared for every person that was fortunate enough to be in her area. The love she showed the elderly of Longview was above and beyond her job duties, and she would not have had it any other way. Even after a sixteen hour work day, she would never complain, but continue to help her clients any way she possibly could. If she couldn't achieve what they needed, she found someone who could. She left a wonderful legacy when she retired a few years ago. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Clarksville City Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Grange Hall Cemetery in Marshall. The Rev. Roger Gage will officiate. There will be a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m., Monday evening, May 6, 2013 at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall. Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Moseley, Todd Morgan, Orlando Romero, Keith Walker, Kevin Walker, Kenneth Walker, Ryan Behrens and Jerry Thomas. Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Ron Walker of Longview; one son, Morgan Scott and Steve Boyd of Longview; two grandchildren, Stacie Morgan Beene of McKinney and Stephanie Krajca of Austin; sister-in-law, Marjorie Morgan of Marshall; two step children, Sheri Behrens and Teri Romero of Carrollton; six step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; two nieces, Toby and Rick Morris and Tracy and Tom Watkins of Marshall; one nephew, Todd and Lynn Morgan of Longview. She also has three wonderful cousins, who are more of a sister to her, Martha McBrayer of Marshall; Bebe Johnson of Mansfield, Tx and Diane Thomas of Shreveport. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Misty Scott Beene in 2010; parents, Julia Moore Morgan in 2006 and Frank B. Morgan in 1972; and brother, Bushe Morgan in 2007. The family extends a very special thank you to Beacon Hospice on Gilmer Road, Longview. The love and compassion they showed was above and beyond, showing they truly are a place that is sincere in their love for the patients and families they serve. Thanks are also extended to Dr. Rama Nayini and Dr. Larry Frase. Longview is most fortunate to have these two doctors. They care for their patients in an extraordinary way, rarely seen in the medical profession. The end of a legacy has arrived. Those who knew Laura are fortunate and blessed to have called her our own. The calls and messages we have received this past week have been overwhelming, proving her generous spirit and kind heart. Our world is the better for having had her in it. Laura loved flowers and they are welcome. However, if you had rather send a memorial, please do so to Beacon Hospice, PO Box 5908, Longview, TX 75608 or to Grange Hall Cemetery, PO Box 401, Marshall, TX 75671. Funeral services are under the direction of Downs Funeral Home. Marshall is truly blessed to have this beautiful funeral home and feel the love and care they always extend. Thank you, Keith and Patricia Downs for your outstanding services time and time again.
