Lawrence (Larry) Andrew Torkelson was called Home to be with our Lord unexpectedly on Friday, January 17, 2025, at his home in Gill, Texas at the age of 78.

Larry was born on November 3, 1946, in Joliet, Illinois, to Edna R Necker Torkelson and Stanley Torkelson. The baby boy of 3 older sisters. Larry graduated high school from Minooka Illinois and later enlisted into the United States Navy. He went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Navy Seabees from 1966 to 1968. He fought in the Vietnam War 1967-1968 where he was Construction Mechanic Auto 3rd class petty officer.

Larry moved his family to Marshall, Texas, in 1992 where he continued his work in the automotive business until retiring in 2010. Larry could be referred to as the neighborhood mechanic as you would often find him tinkering away in his shop. In addition, some may refer to him as the neighborhood watchman for the reason that he also enjoyed watching the traffic go by and could often know who was driving by just by looking at their taillights, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his best friend Lil Bit.

He is survived by his sister, Aileen Cotter of Channahon, Illinois; his two children, Dusti (Rodney) McIntosh and Andrew (Sada) Torkelson of Marshall, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Madison, Angela Marie, Tanner, Andrew, Alexis, Lillian, Dominique, Carlos, Joshua, Jaqueline, and Jayson. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren; five nieces; three nephews; numerous cousins and extended family and friends; his special caretaker Kristy and two favorite nurses Vanessa and Mandy and best friend and companion Lil bit  .

He is proceeded in death by his parents Edna and Stanley and his sisters Patsy and Jacki.

The family is planning a memorial in the spring at his home.
