Obituary

Lillian was born on August 23, 1918, on a farm near the East Texas town of Elysian Fields, the ninth of ten children of Albert Carroll and Pearl Tiller and a fifth generation Texan. Lillian remembers when they got electricity, indoor plumbing, a telephone and their family car.

After graduating from North Texas Teaching College, currently North Texas State University, in Denton, she taught school in Goree, Texas where she met the love of her life, Foy Baine Barnett. They married on October 10, 1941 in Seymour, Texas, while Foy was home on leave from the Army. Just two months later their world was turned upside down when the United States entered World War II. Foy was soon sent over-seas to fight and Lillian moved to Dallas to live with her sister, Vera "Bebbie" Jordan. She and Foy wrote letters to each other almost daily.

After the war, Lillian and Foy lived in Moran, Texas; owned a dry good store; and soon welcomed their two daughters, Becky and June. In 1953 they sold their store and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they stayed for 27 years. During this time Lillian taught school and was completely devoted to raising her daughters.

Once retired, Lillian and Foy moved back to Elysian Fields, close to her roots. During this time she loved spending time with her sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, bothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. When they gathered there was loud talking, laughter and love for each other. She was very excited to once again be a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. She loved her church friendships and her other Elysian Fields friends. While living there, their greatest joy was to invite their grandchildren to come spend days or weeks with them. They often had them come one at a time, so they could have special one-on-one time with them.

Lillian always found humor in everything and loved nothing better than being surrounded by a crowd. She loved talking with people, telling stories and listening to their stories. She had a strong character, strength to face diversity, a flexibility that adapted to changes, a devotion to family and friends, and she made everyone feel like they were special in her eyes, which they were. People searched her out in a crowd and wanted to be in her company. She was good hearted, honest and caring.

She is survived by her daughters Becky Call and husband David, daughter June Smith and husband Kevin; grandchildren Brian Call and wife Jackie, Daniel Call and wife Rena, John Smith and wife Anne, Mark Call and wife Danielle, and Sarah Cozart and husband Rob; great grandchildren Ellie, Caleb, and Jenna Call; Lance, Lindsey, and Lane Call; Lily and Ruby Smith; Katie Call; Adler and Hudson Cozart; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Baine; her parents; her four brothers and five sisters.
