Obituary

A memorial service honoring the life and legacy of Lourn J. (LJ) Hall will be held Saturday, December 20 at 10:30 AM in the sanctuary of Grace Fellowship, 4700 Victory Dr. in Marshall, TX. with his pastor Weston Blaha and former pastor Dr. Mark Livingston officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 at the Church.

Lourn J. (LJ) Hall was born on July 2, 1938, in Lufkin, Texas to Charlie and Ethel Grant Hall and went peacefully to his heavenly home on Monday December 15, 2025.

Born and raised in Lufkin, LJ spent most of his adult life there. After excelling on the football field LJ joined the Army to serve his country. On January 24, 1958, just shortly after completing his enlistment in the military, LJ married the love of his life, Verda. The two would remain married for 63 years until Verda's passing in 2021. Together, and because of Jesus, LJ and Verda built a Godly legacy that will last for generations.

LJ was a hard worker, spending the majority of his career working for the papermill in Lufkin, from where he eventually retired. He loved football, especially the Texas Longhorns, and attended countless games watching his four grandsons play. LJ was a servant inside his local church, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher to both adults and kids alike. LJ loved kids, and they were naturally drawn to him. More than anything LJ loved his wife, his family, and most importantly his Lord and Savior Jesus.

LJ is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law; Tim and Edie Hall of Irving, and Ron and Sharon Hall of Marshall. His grandchildren, who called him Papie; Zach (Becki) Hall of Lexington, North Carolina, Chris (JoAnna) Hall of Liberty Hill, Austin (Abby) Hall of Carthage, and Ryan (Hilary) Hall of Marshall. His great-grandchildren; David, Lilly, Elijah, Isaiah, Adeline, Charlotte, Emmalynn, Everleigh, Maely, Matthan, Carson, Cooper, and Emma. Sister Bonnie Kuehl of Lufkin; Brother and sister-in-law Mike and Judy Paulson of Plano, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

LJ was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ethel; his wife, Verda; brother and sister-in-law Howard and LaMyrle Hall; brother Porky Hall; and brother-in-law Joe Kuehl.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Marshall Hospice of East Texas for their love and care.
