Obituary

Mamie C. Sneed was born in Marshall, Texas on August 15, 1922. She was the eldest daughter of the late James L. Smith Sr. and Johnnie Moore-Smith. She often spoke of her childhood experience as, "coming up on the rough side of the mountain."

Mamie attended Longridge Community School where she completed eighth grade. At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined the Longridge C.M.E. Church in Waskom, Texas. She went on to become an Eastern Star. The spiritual energy and teachings that she received further strengthened her deep faith and love for Jesus Christ, which she demonstrated her entire life.

On February 14, 1942, Mamie met and married the late Rueben Sneed. To this blessed union, sixteen children were born; a big and loving family of nine boys and seven girls. She had a passion for cooking and sewing, which enabled her to effectively care and provide for her family.

Mom was affectionately called Big Mama, Ms. Sneed, Sister Sneed, and Aunt Mamie by family and friends.

On Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 9:15am, Mamie passed from this life and closed her eyes to eternal sleep. She leaves the following survivors to cherish precious memories of her: Sisters - Erma D.
