Funeral services for Marie Simmons, 89 of Marshall will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 29 ^th in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. David Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the Algoma North Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 28 ^th at the Downs Funeral Home.  Mrs. Simmons passed away Sunday morning, August 26, 2018 in Shreveport, LA.

Marie Courtney Simmons was born December 18, 1928 in Hall Summit, LA to C.D. Courtney and Ira Ethel Murray Courtney. She married Howard Benjamin Simmons on October 12, 1957 in Marshall, TX.

She got her Nursing Degree in 1968 and worked at various nursing homes in the Marshall area until she went to work in Elysian Fields as the School Nurse, where she worked from 1981 to 1991. After retiring she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and going to their sporting events.  She loved the Texas Rangers, working with her cattle and deer hunting.

For the past 40 years she went to Beth Golden's Beauty Shop to have her hair done.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband of sixty plus years Howard Simmons; children, Linda Segers Nolan and husband, Charles, Betty Kaye Segers Mayfield and husband, Roger, John Howard Simmons and wife, Suzie, Judy Simmons Lee and husband, Billy, Doni Simmons and wife, Mariann, Tony Clint Simmons and wife, Tasha, and Todd Eric Simmons and wife, Kelli; grandchildren, Barry Nelson, Misty Morris, Sonny Simmons, Clint Simmons, J'Lynn Simmons, Chase Simmons and Colby Simmons; numerous great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews Cindy Sneed, Cam Ross, Dr. Stephen Courtney and Dr. Wendall Courtney.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Segers; grandchildren, Stacy, Jason and Tammy Taylor, and Mindy Lou Chesser Woodson; and brother, Clint "Scrap Iron" Courtney.

The family would like to give special recognition and love to Kelli Simmons and Charles Nolan.

Pallbearers are Clint Simmons, Johnny Simmons, Josh Doyal, Keith Doyal, Chase Simmons, Colby Simmons, Jace Nelson, Tom Swirchack, and Honorary Pallbearers are Stephen Lee, Jeff Lee, Doni Simmons, Sonny Simmons, Chad Lee, Barry Nelson, and Eric Lee.
