A graveside funeral service for Marion Richard "Dick" Shirley, 91, of Marshall will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the Little Chapel by the Lake at Colonial Gardens Cemetery, Marshall. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, April 22, 2016 at Downs Funeral Home, Marshall. Mr. Shirley passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 in Henderson.

Marion Richard Shirley was born October 26, 1924 to Ruban and Mattie Shirley in Gilmer, Texas. As a young man, Dick joined the United States Army serving his country honorably during WWII. He served in the Military Police Battalion and the Gasoline Supply Company. After his military service, he began a long career in the grocery business, working for various companies serving as a supervisor and manager for 73 years. Dick Shirley was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend.

Those left to cherish the many memories of Dick Shirley are his son, Billy Shirley of Gladewater, TX; grandchildren, Rick Shirley, Kelly Richey, Scot Shirley, Marc Shirley, and Jessica Wilson; great-grandchildren, Rachelle Springer, Aaron Shirley, Avery Shirley, Slayton Shirley, Sienna Shirley, Wyatt Wilson, and Lauren Wilson; great-great-grandchildren, Kennedy Springer, Jolene Springer, and Abraham Shirley.
