Graveside services for Marlin Herbert Mattern, 70, of Marshall will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Interment will follow. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, August 9, 2013 at Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Mattern passed away August 7, 2013 at his residence. Marlin Herbert Mattern was born October 30, 1942 in Allentown, PA to Frazier and Mamie Ahner Mattern. He retired from Lewis Engineering. Mr. Mattern was a member of Extra Steps. He loved fishing on Lake O' the Pines and the river. Mr. Mattern was a tinkerer, always busy, loved his grandkids, pets and was a good friend. Mr. Mattern is survived by his daughters, Robyn and husband Randy L. Brown Sr. of Marshall, TX, Staci and husband Col. Michael Kiefer of Ft. Belvior, VA; Marlo Grim of Emmaus, PA; son, Joseph Russ and wife Kristy of Hallsville, TX; grandchildren, Neil Brown and wife Terri, Randy L. Brown, Jr., Christopher Brown, Michael Kiefer II and wife Brooke, Benjamin Kiefer, Cassandra Torres and husband Joseph, Zacharie Grim, Seth Grim, Jacob Grim, Samantha Brown, Tristen Russ, Trevor Coleman, Trenton Luce; great grandchildren, Jaclynne, Taylor, Nicholas Brown, Persephone and Orion Kiefer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Mattern was preceded by his parents, and sister Mamie Ritter.
