A funeral service for Mary Lou Barkett, 93, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel.

Mary Lou was born on October 26, 1929, in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Albert Issack Smith and Josephine Dunham Murphy Smith and passed away on May 22, 2023.

She was affectionately known as Mamu to her eight grandchildren and their spouses, her seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was active in the Altar Guild, Women of Trinity and Daughters of the King.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Josephine Smith and her husband of 51 years, Johnny Barkett.

She is survived by her daughters, Clarissa Martin, Debbie Webb and husband, Dennis and her son, Larry Taylor and wife, Regina.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Trinity Episcopal Church.
