Funeral services for Mary Katherine Shamburger Smith, 88, of Marshall and Hereford, TX, will be held 3:00 P.M., Friday, September 13, 2013 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. Will Sherman officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Woodlawn, TX. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Downs Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith passed away September 7, 2013 in Hereford, TX. Mary Katherine Shamburger Smith was born September 13, 1924 in Ft. Worth, TX to Wallace H. and Katherine E. Redford Shamburger. Mrs. Smith was a 1945 Baylor University graduate, and a member of First Baptist Church of Marshall. Mary K. married Reverend William Edward Smith on July 31, 1945 in Ft. Worth, TX, and he preceded her in death, March, 2007. They owned and operated Marshall Book and Bible Corner from 1976 to 2003. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Susan Alexander of Hereford, TX; granddaughter, Dannysha Caye Alexander Russell and husband Rex of Mustang, OK; grandson, William Koulter Alexander of Woodlawn, TX; great granddaughter, Dayden Caye Russell; great grandson, Rex Bowen Russell, both of Mustang, OK. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ed Smith; parents, Wallace and Kate Shamburger; 3 brothers, Dr. Wallace Shamburger, Dr. William Shamburger and wife Kathryn, and James Shamburger; a sister, Ruth Marsh; and a sister-in-law, Elois Smith Murphy and her husband Maurice.
