Obituary

How does someone write an obituary of man such as my husband Melvin Charles McGee Sr. He was a man of Valor, Fortitude, Character, Stability, Truth, Strength, Values and Morals who also had a deep passionate love for his wife, children, grandchildren and all mankind. He prayed daily that his walk and conversation represented God at all times and when he would miss the mark as some of us do he would immediately ask God for forgiveness. This may not be your traditional obituary but Melvin Charles McGee Sr. was not your ordinary traditional man.

One may say it is the birth and end date of life that belongs in a traditional obituary but as I stated earlier "Melvin Charles McGee Sr. was not a traditional man. It was Melvin's dash between his birth and end date that touched many. What will your dash say?

We know that he was born on August 23, 1950 in Waskom Texas, to the late Robert and Ella Mary McGee. He transitioned from this life on November 24th at 4:23pm at MD Anderson Hospital with his wife, children and grandchildren standing by his bedside singing praises unto God; knowing that we would see him again if we live our life according to the word of God.

We witness firsthand the out pouring of love and testament of his life from men and women in the Commercial Roofing Community who stood by his bedside, praying, and sharing the life he lived before them with his family. On many occasions we were told their life was no longer the same after meeting and talking with Melvin. His life was just as he preached and walked at home. He never was big on titles and initials behind your name or the amount of wealth one may have; His life work and cry was that all "Men come unto the knowledge of who God is."

I asked him what do you want me to say Melvin? And in the stillness I could hear him say "Dell tell them if they must know, I attended Pemberton High School, Prairie View A&M University, and was employed by John Walker Roofing." But the most important thing I want you to tell them is that I was an ordained Minister of the Gospel; I loved God, I trusted in him and I felt the same pain as God the father feels for those that are not walking in the way of the Lord. As I told you before my death, "No matter how this goes or turns out, I Still Win!!

Melvin is preceded in death by his sisters; Everlena McGee, Jacqueline McGee and brother, Robert McGee Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife; Dell, four daughters; Latarsha Johnson (Russell Sr.) of Spring Lake, North Carolina; Roshanna Mitchell (LaJuan) of Houston, Texas; Tomekia Hardison of Houston Texas and Kierra McGee of Houston Texas; son Melvin Charles McGee Jr. of Marshall Texas; 12 grandchildren; 13 godchildren; three sisters, Ruth Parish of Marshall Texas; Beverly McGee, of Marshall Texas; Karon Williams (Sonny) Desota Texas; brothers Kourtney McGee (Marie) of Kingsville, Texas; Marvin McGee (Aretha) of Sweeny Texas; sister-in-law Jacqueline Perry (Nathan); brother-in-laws T.W.
