Mildred June
Jewett
Sep 8, 1934 — Dec 17, 2016
Mildred June (McKinnon) Jewett, 82, was adorned with Heaven's shiny, new angel
wings after succumbing to the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's on December 17, 2016. June died in Rowlett, Texas while in the loving care of her son's family. Born September 8, 1934, in Pensacola, Florida, June was the youngest of six children to John Harley McKinnon and Mildred Emma Hill McKinnon. The family settled in Marshall, where her father built a pottery business best known for his "Little Pitcher with big Ears", when June was 7 years old.
June married the love of her life, Glen Jewett, at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, on February 20 th , 1955. After a short three–week courtship (with daily 100 mile round trips to see her), Glen proposed and they married three months later. June knew he was the "one" and she was right -- he was her steadfast rock, companion, and caregiver until his own death in April 2013. June traveled with Glen throughout his military career until he retired from the Air Force in 1973 and moved the family to Marshall. June used her knack with numbers and people skills, working primarily at credit unions and banks.
June is best known for her love for life, never meeting a stranger, and being a kid at heart, even skipping through the mall as Minnie Mouse to bring joy and a smile to everyone around her. June was crafty and artistic, earning a multitude of prizewinning ribbons and a professional ceramist title. She never missed an opportunity to connect with her childlike self, like entering and winning the first ever fire ant calling contest during Marshall's inaugural Fire Ant Festival.
Before moving to Rowlett, June was an active member of Crossroads United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as Treasurer, and even delivered an occasional sermon as a Lay Leader.
June loved Christ and everything Christmas. Her ascent to Heaven was filled with all the sparkle, glitter, and joyous sounds of Christmas that she loved so much. She will be missed.
June is survived by her daughter, Terrie (Karl) Mutchnik; son Glen (Dominique) Jewett; grandchildren, Andrew Jewett, Amber Alex (Curtis) Pace, Geoffrey Mutchnik, and Alden Mutchnik; and first great grand-baby on the way, Aubrey June Pace.
Viewing will be held at Downs Funeral Home, 4608 Elysian Fields Road, Marshall, Texas from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21st.
