A funeral service for Myrtle Ruth Maxey will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 2:00p.m. in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. Interment will follow directly after the service going to Restland Cemetery in Waskom, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6-8p.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at Downs Funeral Home.

Myrtle Ruth Maxey 85, of Waskom, Texas passed away peacefully January 4, 2019 in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Maxey was born July 4, 1933 in Atkins, AR. to her parents, Bill Philpot and Mary Hendrick. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waskom. Mrs. Maxey was a teacher's aid for Waskom ISD for several years.

Mrs. Maxey is survived by her children, Robert Cain (Sue) and Jackie Cain (Julie); brothers, Andrew Philpot, Tommy Philpot, Bobby Philpot and Billie Philpot; sister, Annie Britt; grandchildren, Benjamin Cain, III, Timothy Cain, Randy Cain, Emily Bennett; great-grandchildren, Relena Cain, Rebekah Cain, Travis Cain, Victoria Cain, Benjamin Cain V, Jakob Cain, Sabrina Doss, Derrick Wilburn, Ali Alford, Dillon Bennett, and Tucker Bennett; great-great grandchild, Banjamin Cain, II. Also left to cherish her memories are a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Maxey is preceded in death by her first husband, Ben Cain; second husband, Ronald Maxey; brother, John Philpot; sister, Nellie Summers.
