Obituary

Nancy was called home by her Heavenly Father Wednesday, October 2, 2024. She was born December 11, 1938, in Jefferson, Texas, the only child of Sidney and Helen Carter. After graduating from Jefferson High School, she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where she graduated from Better Business School and began working as an Executive Secretary at Palais Royal. While in Shreveport, she met and married Russell Clifford Strnad, USAF, to whom she was married for 54 years, until his death in 2011. In 1971, they moved their family to Marshall, Texas, where they raised their five children and later owned and ran Channel One Electronics for over 20 years.

Nancy was loved by many and loved serving others. For years, she was a devoted member of St. Marks Methodist Church, and later in life joined Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the adult choir, and enjoyed helping with children's choirs. She was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.

She took "Love thy Neighbor" to heart and always delighted in serving her community. She did this by spreading good cheer to those in need through Meals on Wheels and by serving at Martha's Kitchen. As an avid reader, she also found time to volunteer at the Marshall Public Library and was a member of Friends of Public Libraries.

It was through her service to others, while delivering meals to shut-ins, she met and soon married Charles Grady Head, USAF. They spent seven wonderful years together. Charlie preceded Nancy in death in 2022.

Nancy is now reunited with her son David Dana Strnad, who entered heaven in 2019. She will be missed by her remaining children and in-laws: Russell Charles and Gage Strnad, Amalia Strnad (David's widow, and Nancy's caregiver for the past couple of years), Kerri Carter and Lisa Strnad, Eric Franklin Strnad, Daniel Patrick and Dell Strnad. She was also loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will miss her presence on this earth, but know they will be reunited with her in Heaven.

The family invites you to share in their celebration of Nancy's life, Monday, October 7, 2024, at Down's Funeral Home. They will be receiving guests beginning at 1:00 pm, with the service to follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy has asked that donations be made to your local food pantry.
