Obituary

Naomi Holland went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 13, 2018. Naomi was born on June 9, 1924 to James and Iva Daniel, on the Daniel Farm in Dade County, Missouri.  It rained so hard the day she was born that Sons Creek was out of its bank and the midwife had to deliver her at home.  She was welcomed by older siblings Marguerite, David and Nola.  Naomi attended Rocky Hill District #46 grade school and Lockwood High School.  She married the love of her life, T J Holland, on March 5, 1945 in Big Springs, Texas at the Post Chapel on the AAF Base.  She worked for Western Union; assisted with the war efforts by signing up families for rationing books for meat, sugar, coffee, gas, and tires; worked for Thiokol; and eventually retired from First State Bank of Avinger where she was a teller. Naomi and T J were blessed with three children: Larry, Charlotte and Jimmy. They raised them in Avinger, Texas where they enjoyed watching them play basketball for the Avinger Indians.  Naomi sewed, tended a garden, cooked, raised beautiful flowers, and could "light up the piano" on occasion.  Once the kids were raised, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling, painting, helping with great-grandchildren, and assisting at Oakwood House as a Resident Ambassador. Naomi loved the Lord and was a member of Walnut Springs Baptist Church.

Mrs. Holland is survived by her son, Larry Holland and wife Brenda of Linden, TX; daughter, Charlotte Slone and husband Larry of Marshall, TX; son, Jimmy Holland and wife Amy of Atlanta, TX; grandchildren,   Holly Horn and husband Mike, Ross Slone and wife Beth, Sharla Visage and husband Thomas, Dr. Jubal Holland and wife Bee, Josiah Holland and wife Katherine, and Will Holland; great-grandchildren, Travis and Coby Horn, Hailey and Mady Slone, Molly and Tom Visage, Cagan and Collier Slone, Holden and Waker Holland, and Quinn and Naomi Holland; nephew, Don Lasater of Lockwood, Missouri, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Naomi is preceded in death by her  husband of 60 years, T J Holland and granddaughter, Tonia Holland.

The family would like to thank Oakwood House in Marshall for the excellent care Mrs. Holland received while living there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those touched by Naomi Holland's life to extend their hand in a random act of kindness.

Services will be held Monday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Brother Buddy Briggs officiating. Interment will be in Bethsaida Y Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the funeral service.
