A graveside service for Nell Thomas, 72, of Marshall, Texas, will be at 10am Monday, September 22, 2014, in the Little Chapel at Colonial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 4 to 6pm Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall. Ms. Thomas passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014, in Longview, Texas. Nell was born October 24, 1941, in Houston, Texas to Johnny B. Fite and Bertha Leona Hughes Fite. She worked for Safeway until her retirement in 1985. Nell was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church. She was dedicated to her faith and studies to God's word, daily. She loved to work in her yard taking care of her plants and garden. Nell was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was kind hearted and never met a stranger. Surviving Ms. Thomas are her two children, John Lewis Thomas and wife, Gayla, and Jeffery Thomas and wife, Kim; two sisters Beth Willingham and husband, Ray of Angleton, Texas, and Geneva Lang; five grandchildren, Amanda Tomlin and husband, Kevin, Brian Thomas and wife, Jennifer, Brooke Thomas and Fiance, Ryan Collier, Summer Stone and husband, Trey; four great-grandchildren, Hunter and Avery Tomlin, Reaghan Stone & Jonathan Thomas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Thomas and brother, Joe Brown.
