Obituary

Norma Allen King went to be with her Lord peacefully on May 25, 2017. Born an only child on September 22, 1928 to Drew and Fannie Allen in her grandparents' home in Providence, a small community south of Jacksonville, Norma spent most of her childhood on her grandparents' farm surrounded by cousins and friends. She recalled so many fun memories on the farm and had a very close relationship with her mother and Mama Dover. During Norma's attendance at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, her mother passed away. She then began living with her mother's boss, Sibyl Rix and husband, Sam, who eventually became grandparents to her children. Norma completed her education at TSCW (now TWU) and received a Merchandising Degree in 1949. Norma met her future husband, "the most eligible bachelor in Jacksonville," during the summer of 1948 and married Loren Moses King, Jr. on April 8, 1950. They enjoyed almost 53 years of marriage prior to his death in 2003.

Norma received her teacher's certification from ETBU and later her Master's Degree from SFA after she and Mose moved to Marshall in 1955. She taught at David Crockett Elementary for 20+ years. Following retirement, she and Mose spent many years traveling and socializing with their very close friends. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the Lynoak families, whether it was camping trips, playing games, watching the neighbor children playing in the various yards, or watching sports and dance recitals.

After Mose's passing, Norma became a Pink Lady at the hospital and volunteered in the office at Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a long-time member and active in Women of Trinity. She looked forward to Sunday mornings with the early service coffee drinkers and dominoes and cards with her game-night buddies.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Mose King, parents, foster parents, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

She is survived by her children, Loren M. (Buddy) King, III (Anna), of Freeport, Sam King (Christy), of Longview, David King (Josie) of College Station and Sibyl King of Marshall; her grandchildren, Matt Stanfield, Cristina Pellerin (Travis), Sarah Hasler (Seth), Ashley Bodin (Derrick), Lauren Holasek (Brian), Loren King (Ashley), Brooke Alston (Phil), Jonathan King (Mallory), Brock McAlister (Bre), and Anna Westmoreland; great-grandchildren, Emma and Maddie Pellerin, Caden and Colton King, Lucy Alston, Luke and Wyatt Holasek, Austen Hand, and Kaylee Hasler; and special cousins, Mike and Eleanor McKee of McKinney.

Services for Mrs. King will be at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. with a time of visitation at Downs Funeral Home on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers are Matt Stanfield, Loren King, Jonathan King, Travis Pellerin, Brian Holasek, Derrick Bodin, and Mike McKee. Honorary pallbearers are Pete Grant, Clay Allen, Chuck Spencer, Zane Jackson, Rusty Asaff, and Ken Haynes.

Special thanks to Mom's therapists, Marshall Homecare and Hospice, and the staff and residents at Reunion Inn, who became a part of her family.
