Obituary

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Crossroads Methodist Church to celebrate his life.  Thad Carter will officiate the service.

Jim was born October 22, 1932, to Olney James Holt, Sr. and Ruby Lee Thompson Holt in Blossom, Texas.  He attended Marshall schools, served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1955 and was a member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church.  He, along with his 3 younger brothers, followed in their Dad's footsteps and began careers as pipeline welders.  It was on a pipeline job in Chillicothe, IL that he met and married the love of his life, Diane Kay Russell. They married on December 12, 1960.

Along with being a pipeliner, he was a rancher & cattleman and ran a very successful cattle operation for many years with his uncle, AA Brune.  In 1968, Jim, Diane & their girls settled their family south of Marshall on 200 acres that was his pride & joy and it was there that he lived for 54 years and it was there, in the home that he loved, that the Lord took him to his Heavenly home on March 26, 2022.

Jim, known to many as "Bubba" took so much pride in his family, his pipeline family and the beautiful ranch that he called his "paradise".  He would say "A man owns one good horse and one good dog in his lifetime…..and I've been blessed with both"…..his beloved cow dog "Booger" and his cow horse, a lil black mustang named "Blackjack".  Some of his fondest memories were with those 2 working cattle with his friends.  His pipeline family meant the world to him.  He not only worked alongside these men and women for many years, he shared a brotherhood and a lifetime bond with them.  He was extremely proud to be a Lifetime Member of the 798 Pipeline Local & he loved telling stories and reminiscing about the many years he spent working on pipelines around the world.

He was a man that loved with his whole heart, especially when it came to his family.  He was such a loving husband, Daddy, Granddaddy and Great Grand, Brother, Uncle & Friend. His sweet smile and amazing hugs will be forever missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Holt and brothers, Alan Lee Holt and Norman Gene Holt.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Diane K. Holt; daughter, Jennifer Holt Ford and husband, Scotty; brother, Tim Holt and wife Eva; grandchildren, Megan Holt and spouse Guy, Will James Foster, Caylin Fisher and spouse, Kody, Erin Garcia and spouse, Willy and Ashley Bond and spouse, Craig; great grandchildren, Stella Rose Vicars, Kruz Fisher, Kreed Fisher, Briana Garcia, Gabby Garcia, Olivia Bond and Victoria Bond, along with numerous other nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Crossroads United Methodist Church and to the Disabled Veteran's Association.
