Ottis Dalton Gunter, Jr., fondly known by family and friends as Dal, Ottis or Big "O", was born in Warsaw, Missouri on November 17, 1947 to Ottis D. Gunter, Sr. and Jewel Lister Gunter. He married Jennifer L. Hanson on May 16, 1970 in Kansas City, Kansas. Ottis worked as a fork lift driver for General Motors, retiring in 2006. He was a member of United Auto Workers Union #2166. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, working on autos, and especially loved his family and being "Papa" to his grandchildren. Ottis passed away at his residence on January 17, 2015. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of forty-four years, Jennifer; his children, Todd Gunter and wife, Michelle of Maud, TX, Gwendolyn Smith and husband, Chad of Bella Vista, AR, Jared Gunter and wife, Lindsey of Elysian Fields, TX; grandchildren, Rachelle, Kayla, and Dalton Gunter of Maud, Ashton Smith of Bella Vista, Riley Kate Gunter of Elysian Fields; sisters, Elva Gunter of Camdenton, MO, Melody Willis and husband, Jimmie of Marshall, MO, Melanie Neill and husband, Ed of Cameron, MO, Alice Folsom and husband, Gregg of Lakeland, FL; brothers, Sidney Gunter and wife, Janine of Corbin, KY, and Phillip Gunter and wife, Elaine of Mayetta, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis and Jewell Gunter, and brother, Delton Robert Gunter. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home in Marshall with Rev. David Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Elysian Fields Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 20th. Pallbearers will be Todd Gunter, Jared Gunter, Chad Smith, Billy Gunter, Jimmie Willis, and Ricky Harris.
