Funeral services for Owen L. Prothro, 79, of Elysian Fields, TX, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2015, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. David Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Crossroads Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Prothro passed away February 12, 2015 at his home. Owen L. Prothro was born on August 22, 1935, in Udall, Kansas, to Elmer and Gladys Gearhart Prothro. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Prothro retired from Woodlawn Manufacturing as a toolmaker and machinist. He also worked for Haynes Feed Store. Mr. Prothro married Rhonda Lynn Kethley on February 29, 2004 at Crossroads Methodist Church. Surviving Mr. Prothro are his wife, Rhonda Prothro of Elysian Fields; children, Kelley Whatley of Linden Kildare, Brian Prothro and wife Elizabeth, Terry Prothro and wife Kathy, all of Elysian Fields, Larry Prothro and wife Cheryl of Haysville, Kansas, Joey Morris of Ore City, Christy Hopkins of Elysian Fields, Candi Baldwin of Waskom, Kimberly Butler Almeida and husband Tony of Dallas, Chad Powell and wife Linda of Gary; brother, Norman Prothro and wife Alise; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, first wife and mother of 4 of his children, Sherry Prothro; other extended family and friends. Preceding Mr. Prothro in death were his parents, Elmer and Gladys Prothro; his wife of 22 years, Marie Prothro; son-in-law, Keith Whatley; granddaughter, Heather Whatley; great granddaughter, Whitney Butler; brother, Grant Prothro; sister, LaVaun Trussell; and niece, Angela Jo Case. Pallbearers will be Timmy Whatley, Mickey Whatley, Jason Baldwin, Colton Prothro, Christopher Baldwin and Drake Riggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Seth Prothro, Easton Whatley, Gage Whatley, Cason Whatley and Jett Whatley. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund.
