Pat
Coghlan
Feb 27, 1956 — Apr 5, 2022
Marshall
Thomas Patrick Coghlan, better known as Pat, devoted father, brother, friend, and a long-time resident of Marshall, TX., died at the age of 66 on April 5, 2022 in the comfort of his brother's home after a nearly 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born February 27, 1956 in Landstuhl, Germany to fighter pilot Lt. Col. Jack V. Coghlan Jr. and Mary Louise Coghlan, Pat grew up around the world with his 3 brothers in places such as Germany, Italy, and Honduras due to his father's service in the military. He eventually followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Air Force in 1980. While in the Air Force, he worked as a radiology technician at various bases around the country including MacDill in Tampa, FL, Dyess in Abilene, TX, Barksdale in Shreveport, TX, as well as bases in Panama and Sacramento, CA. During that time he married Laurie in July 1982 and his beloved daughter Shaylee was born on October 11 th , 1984. After retiring from the Air Force as a Master Sargent in 2003, he found a home at Longview Regional Medical Center in Longview, TX where he worked until he retired in January 2019.
He had a love for sports and outdoor activities, golf being his #1 passion. After retiring from Longview Regional, he spent nearly every day hitting the links even while he was undergoing cancer treatments. He was an avid softball player, both on the field and as a coach. He loved fishing, whether it was at the lake or in his pond. He also enjoyed cooking brisket and his amazing pot of chili which won awards in several contests. When he wasn't engaged in one of these activities, he was spending time maintaining the Coghlan family property, which was his pride and joy. Those who knew him will remember him most for his intense devotion to his family and friends and his zest for life.
Pat is survived by his beloved daughter, Shaylee of Plano, TX (mother Laurie), his brothers Vincent of Tyler, TX (wife, Margery), Michael of Marshall, TX (wife, Ginger), and Dennis of Marshall, TX (fiancée, Diane Wallace), his cousins Dottie of Chevy Chase, MD, Judy and Steve of Roanoke, VA, Kelly and Katie of Houston, TX, and his nephews Colten Coghlan and Casey Weir and nieces Codi Coghlan and Cori Weir. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Louise Coghlan and father Lt. Col. Jack Vincent Coghlan.
A private ceremony will be held in the near future. The Coghlan family wishes to send thanks to Dr. Koya and Texas Oncology of Longview.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Wounded Warriors, St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital.
