Obituary

On February 9, 2024, the Spirit of God descended from Heaven and rested on Pearline "Ray" Irving as He said, "well done thou good and faithful Servant, thou have been faithful of a few things," enter thou into the Joy of the Lord.

Pearline "Ray" Irving was born to the parentage of Mr. Henry Phillips and Mrs. Emma Franklin Phillips on January 29, 1930, in Marshall, Texas. Both parents preceded her in death at an early age. Pearline accepted Christ in her life and became a member of Longridge C.M.E. Methodist Church. She attended Marshall I.S.D.

Pearline's goal was to have her own restaurant and she accomplished that goal when she opened Ray's Fine Food servicing the people and the Wiley College Basketball Team for many years. She loved to sew and had approximately 200 quilts. Some of her hand sewn quilts are currently being enjoyed and displayed throughout the U.S.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma Phillips and her two sons, Frankie Joe Boyd and Johnny Roy Irving.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted son, Bill A. Boyd (Monica); three grandchildren, Shandon Boyd (Kim), Shawanda Hicks and Frankazia Boyd; one nephew, Curtis Phillips (Lovie) and one niece, Susie Jennings along with other family and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2024, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshall, Texas.
