Joseph Wyndel "Pete" McCarty was born on January 11, 1930, in Marshall to James McCarty and Hilda Fisher McCarty. He was the salutatorian from Marshall High School and received a bachelor's degree from East Texas Baptist University. Pete served in the U.S. Army for 2 years in the Panama Canal and earned the rank of Corporal in the Counterintelligence Corps. Pete and Margaret Brewster McCarty married in 1957 and had one son, Kent McCarty.
He was a very energetic, amiable man who was active in the community and in the church. He was proud of serving as a City Commissioner and was a leader in the Jaycees and the Lions Club. He was the Treasurer of Cumberland Presbyterian for decades and sang in the choir for many years.
He and his late wife, "Maggie," owned Pete McCarty Oil for 40 years before he retired. He enjoyed playing '42' weekly at the church, eating at Papacita's, and he adored his faithful companion named New Dog. Pete and Maggie looked forward to their regular trips to Las Vegas to play slots.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Diane McCarty; grandchildren Ross McCarty and his wife, Brittani; Jacob McCarty and his wife, Haley; great grandchildren Hunter, Reagan, Tucker, Eli and Hadley McCarty; niece Sue Ware and her husband, Prentice.
His extended family included incredibly loving, devoted caregivers: Jennifer Beavers, Karie Youngblood, Lisa Kobuszewski and Jolene Oney.
