Obituary

Ralph Zimmerman, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024, on his farm in Waskom, Texas.  He was surrounded by the love of his daughter Tanya, son David and his daughter-in-law Jennifer, his devoted wife Victoria, and his many animal companions. He leaves behind a legacy that will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who knew him.

His life was a testament to his boundless creativity and capability, evident in the multitude of careers and projects he undertook throughout his lifetime. He served in the Army for over 20 years deploying all over the world.  After the Army he ventured in the charter boat and home inspection businesses. He had a knack for restoring old vehicles and a passion for the open road, whether on horseback, motorcycle, or in a fast classic car. He never stopped learning and developing new skills. He faced life's challenges with unwavering resolve, earning him the nicknames Sarge and Wildman. His infectious spirit endeared him to many, earning him the affectionate titles of Big Dog and Cowboy.

Known for his legendary toughness, Ralph bore both physical and emotional scars with grace and fortitude. Ralph's resilience and determination were matched only by his love for a good steak and his fondness for any local hole-in-the-wall restaurant, where he could often be found enjoying life's simple pleasures. He had a heart of gold, always willing to lend a helping hand and give generously to those in need. Ralph was a true steward of the earth, finding joy in saving and caring for all living creatures, from dogs and horses to little kitties.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife Victoria; daughter Tanya, his son-in-law Dail, and his granddaughter Madisen; his son David, daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandson Blake, and granddaughters Lillian, Presley-Jane, and Reese. Ralph is preceded in death by his mother Jacquelyn Helen Zimmerman, and his father Ralph David Zimmerman, Sr.

The family expresses gratitude to those who provided support during this time.  Many thanks to all the physicians, nurses, and staff at AccentCare Hospice, AccentCare Home Health, and Willis Knighton Medical Center.  His life will be celebrated in a private family gathering at the Zimmerman farm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice or paying it forward with a random act of kindness.

In the words of a Toby Keith song, Ralph tried every day to wake up and not let the old man in-- being productive and leaving an indelible mark on the world around him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the memories of those who loved him. Ralph David Zimmerman, Jr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rest in peace Sergeant, knowing your gift of service, valor and unwavering dedication to this country will endure.  Your battles are finally over. Rest in peace dear cowboy and forever gallop alongside your beloved horses and faithful dogs.  Roam free forever across the great frontier.
