Reeves was born in Marshall, TX, May 3, 1945. His parents were Clayton Feild, Jr. and Margaret Reeves Feild. His siblings were Clayton Feild III, and Jane Margaret Bontempo.

He graduated from Marshall High School in 1963 and attended North Texas University in Denton for two years before moving to Nacogdoches and completing his degree at Stephen F. Austin. He graduated from S. F. A. with a B. S. in Political Science and a minor in Journalism. Reeves went to work at The Shreveport Times in 1969 as a court reporter and eventually moved to the State Desk. A short time later he was promoted to Outdoor Editor. This was his dream job. He got to do all the outdoor things he loved, meet new people who shared his love of the outdoors and write about them. Over the years, he won numerous awards for his work.

So many of his favorite memories involve fishing and hunting. Some of these were of his time at the family's house on Caddo Lake when he was young and later fishing and hunting with his brother Clayton and the funny tales that go with some of those trips. He loved taking his son and daughter fishing even though one of those trips ended up with a broken motor and us paddling across Toledo Bend singing our hearts out and I'm sure disturbing the wildlife for miles around. Dinners and Taboo with our dear friends Bob and Becky Bibb were another thing he always looked forward to as well as fishing with Bob. Time spent with his grandchildren and the rest of his family fishing at the Bibb's pond were always fun, and even though in more recent years it was harder for him to navigate, he always found a way to get to the pier or the bank because he didn't want to miss a minute.

Reeves was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Katy, his son, Kyle, his daughter, Kelly Feild Parry and her husband Clay and their three precious children Cole, Emi and Addi as well as his nephews Wade and Jason Bontempo and his niece Kimberly Bogin and their sweet families.
