Rex A. Shaw Funeral services for Rex A. Shaw, 84, of Marshall, formerly of Upshur County will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Chapel by the Lake at Colonial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall with Larry W. Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Colonial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 20th at the Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Shaw passed away August 17, 2013 at his residence in Marshall. Rex A. Shaw was born in Upshur County, Texas on May 9, 1929 to Ellie Shaw and Ethel Campbell Shaw. He attended school in Upshur County and received a B.S. Degree in Agriculture from Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos. He worked for Lone Star Steel for twenty-six years retiring in 1986. He also served as the Upshur County Clerk for sixteen years retiring in 2002. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956, was a former member of First Baptist Church in Gilmer and a member of First Baptist Church in Marshall. He was a Master Mason Bethesda No. 142 in Gilmer. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Brenda Shaw of Marshall; son, Eric Shaw of Longview; daughter, Traci Smith of Marshall; sisters, Janie Boehler of Spring, and Elaine Callahan of San Marcos. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Shaw and Harold Laney Shaw; and his parents, Ellie Shaw and Ethel Shaw.
