A visitation for Rita Darlene Gossett, 68, of DeBerry, Texas will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Downs Funeral Home.

Rita was born on May 26, 1956, in Winnfield, Louisiana to James Darrell Jeans and Patsy Jean Huggins Jeans and passed away on September 26, 2024, in Carthage, Texas.

She was a long-time resident of East Texas, although she was born in Louisiana. She received a bachelor's degree in social sciences and was working on a master's degree. She worked as a CPA, a Paralegal and a Social Worker, being a successful businesswoman in Carthage, Texas. She had several creative hobbies including, painting, cross stitching and baking Christmas cookies. One of her favorite things to do was watch Hallmark movies. She was a very kind, gentle and sweet woman that loved her family, especially her grandchildren and she was crazy in love with her husband, John.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Patsy Jeans.

She is survived by her husband, John V. Gossett; son, Thor Partovi; daughter, Thyra Florez; stepsons, Bobby, Michael and Brad Gossett; grandchildren, Allie and Landon Partovi, Max Florez, Kaitlyn Berry, Mkaya, Kimber and Kiley Gossett, Micah Gossett and Ismarelda Gossett and great grandchild, Jasper Berry along with other family and friends.
