A graveside service for Robert G. "Papaw" Smith, 77, of Flint, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Yates Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Scottsville, Texas.

Robert was born on September 24, 1947, in Alexandria, Louisiana to Jerome James Smith, Sr. and Lora Mae Duncan and passed away on March 6, 2025, in Flint, Texas.

He married Beverly Ray Byrd on April 26, 1990 in Shreveport, Louisiana and the two remained married until his passing. He loved fishing, traveling, RVing and motorcycle riding with the Patriot Guard. He served in the US Navy on the Yorktown Carrier during the Vietnam War. He worked at the Shreveport Fire Department for 28 years, retiring as Captain. Most of all he loved being with his family and loved his dogs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerome Sr. and Lora Smith; brothers, Jerome James Smith, Jr. and Walter Eben Smith and brother-in-laws, Garland Scott Whitis, Ronald Harlan and Gene Nichols.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Smith; children, Brittany Smith Castellon and husband, Tony and Darinda Dans Rainer and husband, Michael; sisters, Sandra Harlan and Sidone Nichols and grandchildren, Tabitha Alleman, Owan Gray Wade and husband, Tyler and Gavin Rainer along with numerous other family and friends.
