Funeral services for Roberta Jane Ray, 82, of Marshall, TX, will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 29, 2014 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. Carlton Burris officiating. Interment will follow in Colonial Gardens Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2014 at Downs Funeral Home. Mrs. Ray passed away November 25, 2014 at her home. Roberta Jane Armstrong Ray was born December 8, 1931, in Dallas, Texas to Robert Emmett and Anne Lee Whaley Armstrong. She was a cashier for Brookshires, Kroger and retired from Safeway. Jane married Luther Lee "Pete" Ray Sr. on July 1, 1952, and he preceded her in death December 29, 2008. Surviving Mrs. Ray are her daughters, Deborah D. Ray and Linda E. Ray, both of Marshall; grandson/son, Luther L. Ray III of Marshall; grandchildren, Gregory B. Carter and Tiffany Springer, Sonny and Lana Simmons, Clint and Jamie Simmons, Jr., and JLynn S. and Louis Greaux; 9 great grandsons, Lanson and Dalton Simmons, Arlend D. Carter, Trevor and Rowdy Simmons, Jackson and Nathan Greaux, Thomas Ray and Jamesion Simmons; sister, Naomi and Harold Grigsby; and other extended family and friends. Preceding Jane in death were her sons, Roger Lee Ray, Luther Lee "Bud" Ray, Jr.; grandson, Christopher Lee Carter; nephew, Mark W. Powell; sister, Gwendolyn A. Powell; father, Robert E. Armstrong; mother, Anne L. Whaley Armstrong Sanders; and step-father, Leonard Sanders. Pallbearers will be Greg Carter, J.D. Ray, Brad Grigsby, C.B. Lewis, Arlend Carter and Sherrl Love. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Greaux, Lanson Simmons and Dalton Simmons. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Jane's caregivers, Dana Anderson and Emily Harvey; and Marshall Hospice Staff, Leslie, Norma, Sue, Glenda, Tanya, Megan, Anna and Tameka. The family requests memorials be made to Immanual Baptist Church Building Fund or Marshall Home Care and Hospice.
