Obituary

Roy Allen Norwood, age 85, passed away in his home peacefully with his wife of 40 years, Betty Norwood and his family by his side, along with his two dogs, Cry Baby and Little Bit.

Roy was born on April 14, 1941, in Bossier City, Louisiana and was raised in Joaquin, Texas.

He proudly served in the United States Marin Corps. and was honorably discharged with a good conduct medal and several M4 expert badges. He worked for the Kansas City, Southern, L&A division for 30 years as a track foreman. He loved the railroad and even received an accommodation from the railroad for saving the life of a woman that drove off an overpass and was dangling in mid air. He pulled his railroad truck under the overpass and saved the woman's life. He was a railroad union representative with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way (BMWED).

Roy and Betty owned a fishing camp on the Sabine River, where they camped, fished and canoed. They had many cookouts for many family members and friends. The river was their life for many years. They canoed down the Sabine River for three days, cooking what fish they caught along the way, not seeing another soul in sight. They had the time of their lives. They loved gardening and had a huge garden that provided food for many family members, friends and neighbors.

He was a tall, handsome Texas, a true gentleman with the suits, Stetson hat and cowboy boots. He has a sense of humor the size of Texas. Those twinkles in his blue eyes sparkled.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Henry Norwood and Emma Whitten Norwood; his two brothers, Bobby Wayne Norwood and Rodney D. Norwood and grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew and Luke.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Norwood; his daughter, Kelly Stevens of Brownsboro, Texas; four step children, Terry Hardaway of Ft. Worth, Texas, Shirley Warren of Haughton, Louisiana, John Warren of Bossier City, Louisiana and Scott Warren of Keithville, Louisiana; brother, Walter Norwood; sister, Beverly Holloway and husband, Robert; grandchild, Beth and great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He will be deeply missed by us all.
