Ruby Mae was born to Louis (MT) and Mary Smith Hearne on February 24, 1936, the first of two children. She is the older sister of her beloved brother, Deacon Charles W. Hearne (deceased). She attended Marshall Texas schools until her marriage to Mr. Willie Hugh Britt on February 24, 1950, thus becoming Ruby Hearne Britt. Ruby and Willie Britt were married for 72 years until his death in 2022. Mr. & Mrs. Britt relocated to Connecticut in the late 1950's to pursue better work opportunities. Mrs. Britt birthed three children, Willie Hugh Britt, Jr. (deceased), Estrolita Denise Little and Patricia Yvonne Britt-Roberson. She had a beloved bonus daughter, Lanell Marie Britt and a bonus son she raised, Damen Kamal Britt.

Mrs. Britt's education took a circuitous path that continued after her children got older. Her educational pursuits went into overdrive. She acquired her GED and then earned her associate degree from South Central Community College with a 4.0 GPA in 1974. New York University was the next step where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in nutrition and health sciences. Ultimately acquiring licensing as a Registered Dietitian.

Mrs. Britt's career path drove her educational pursuits. Her formal career path started at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut in the kitchen where her mentor saw her potential. She became a Food Service Supervisor at Bridgeport Hospital and subsequently the Dietary Director at Bridgeport Mental Health Center. Upon her retirement, Mr. & Mrs. Britt relocated back to Marshall, Texas to help care for her ailing mother and father. Still not ready for permanent retirement, she continued in dietary management as a Registered Dietician in various healthcare environments including Marshall Manor, a nursing home in Marshall, Texas and at Best Friends in Longview, Texas.

Mrs. Britt strongly believed in education and encouraged her kids and others to go to school and get their education or career training. She didn't require you to be the top of everything, but just do the very best and give your best effort. She had high standards for herself and the people around her.

Ruby Britt is preceded in death by her maternal great grandmother, Rosa Stroger; her son, Willie H. Britt, Jr.; her parents, Louis and Mary Hearne; her sister-in-law, Juanita McAfee Hearne; her brother, Charles W. Hearne; her husband, Willie H. Britt, Sr. and her nephew, Charles Hearne, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Lanell Bowens, Estrolita Denise Little and Patricia Yvonne Britt-Roberson; her son, Damen Kamal Britt; grandchildren, Christi Bowens and David Bowens; great grands, Daisha Britt, D'Andrea Berryman and Yvonna Britt and nephew Ronald L. Hearne and a host of other family members and friends.
