Sally
Lane
Oct 20, 1938 — Mar 1, 2025
Marshall
Family and friends will be celebrating the life of Sally Frances Murray Lane, 86, of Marshall, Texas at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Downs Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 prior to the service on Sunday.
Sally was born on October 20, 1938, in Heavener, Oklahoma to Velma Sally and Archie Clay Murray. She graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1955, and from St. Edwards Nursing School as a R.N. in 1958.
Using her nursing skills, Sally touched many people throughout her life. She worked as a nurse both in a hospital setting and in a physician's office in Fort Smith. In later years Sally worked as a Health Occupations teacher at Marshall Hight School, and as a school nurse for MISD.
In March of 1958, Sally married the late Robert "Bob" Charles Lane. They lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas until 1966, when they moved to Marshall, where they raised their four children. Sally fiercely loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family meant everything to her, and she was so proud of them. She was always ready to go to battle for them if she thought they had been wronged.
She also enjoyed serving her community throughout her life, volunteering in school classrooms, at church, Bible School and at church camp. In her free time, she cheered on the Arkansas Razorback basketball and football teams on T. V. If they were playing well, you were sure to hear at least one "Whoo Pig Sooie" from her. If not, you might hear some "encouragement" to the coaches or officials to do a better Job!
Preceding Sally in death are her husband, Bob Lane; parents, Sally and Clay Murray and siblings, Ray Murray, Jack Murray, Jimmie Murray and Charles Clayton Murray.
Sally is survived by her four children and two sons-in-law: Bobby Lane of Marshall, Melissa and Rick Terrill of Prosper, Texas, Pam and Bill Spurr of Marshall, and Amanda Lane of Marshall. She had six grandchildren: Natalie Rogers (spouse Andy), Tyler Terrill (spouse Magaret), Haley Murch (spouse Casey), Kelsey Terrill, Robbie Spurr (spouse Kacie) and Sam Terrill. She also had eight great-grandchildren: Mercer Rogers, Larkin Rogers, Eliana Murch, Addilyn Murch, Micah Murch, Jensen Spurr, James Terrill and Thomas Terrill.
