Born on January 10, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas, Shan lived a life dedicated to her family, her God, and the countless lives she touched through her advocacy and inspiration.
Shan was an extraordinary mother to her two sons, Mathew Emmett Smith and Anthony Troy Stephens, raising them with boundless love, wisdom, and strength. Since 1989, she was the honorable and loving wife of Jerry G. Therrell, sharing a marriage filled with mutual respect, joy, and devotion.
A gifted musician, Shan's beautiful singing voice, often described as angelic, and her skillful guitar playing resonated with many, bringing light and hope to all who heard her. Her deep faith in God and Jesus Christ guided every aspect of her life, shining through in her kindness and generosity. Shan's faith was beautifully expressed in her favorite verse, "This is the day that the Lord has made; I will be glad and rejoice in it" (Psalm 118:24), a reflection of her joyful and grateful spirit.

Her work touched hearts and changed lives, leaving an enduring legacy of selflessness and inspiration.
Shan is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry G. Therrell; her sons, Mathew Emmett Smith and Anthony Troy Stephens; her cherished grandson, Mason T. Stephens; and a community forever touched by her warmth and spirit. Her family intends to honor her wishes throughout their lives and looks forward to seeing her again in the presence of the Lord.
A memorial service to celebrate Shan's life will be held at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas, on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The family welcomes all who knew her to join in honoring her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TLC Ministries in Shan's name, a cause close to her heart.
Shan's voice, like an angel's, now leads the heavenly choir, her faith and love continuing to inspire all who knew her, reminding us to rejoice in each day the Lord has made.
