A funeral service for Shelby Jean Garner Crooms will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2024, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Crooms passed away at the age of 80 on April 7, 2024, in Longview, Texas.

She was born in Rayville, LA on May 17, 1943, to Clifton Morton Garner and Opal Lee Plunkett. She married Merwyn Edney Crooms on June 2, 1961.

Shelby received her cosmetology license in 1971 and made a career of hair and beauty, traveling the United States and abroad promoting beauty products. She owned the Marshall Cosmetology of Beauty in Marshall for several years and owned several beauty salons in Texas and Louisiana. She loved to decorate and routinely changed decorations inside and outside her home. She loved to work in her yard and spent many hours on projects in her gardens. She loved to trade flowers and plants with her friends forever expanding her gardens. One of her favorite pastimes was creating floral arrangements and wreaths for every season.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Yvette and William Graham of Marshall, TX, brothers and their spouses, Robert and Sheila Williams of West Monroe, LA and Mike and Paula Williams of Albuquerque, NM along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father Clifton Garner, mother and step-father, Opal and Roland "Bud" Williams, husband, Merwyn Edney Crooms and sister and brother-in-law, Sue and John McMillian.
