Shirley Ross passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 5:40 a.m. After a difficult final chapter, she is now free from pain, fear, and confusion—rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Jimmy Ross.

Shirley married Jimmy Ross on April 8, 1988. They shared 21 beautiful years of marriage before his passing in September 2009. Shirley lived a life full of faith, love, and service. Though her health prevented her from doing the things she once loved, like crocheting, she is now whole again—walking in perfect peace and joy.

She was a devoted member of Memorial Baptist Church, where she found joy in decorating with floral arrangements, cleaning the church, and fellowshipping with her church family. She especially enjoyed shopping and dining out.

Though we grieve her absence here on earth, we rejoice knowing this is a homegoing worth celebrating. The past seven months were especially hard for Miss Shirley—marked by confusion, fear, and tears. But now, she knows only peace, clarity, and the glory of God.

Shirley will be laid to rest beside her beloved Jimmy at Langley Cemetery in Beckville, Texas. There will be no graveside service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Evans and Birdie Clopton, and her husband, Jimmy Ross.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home, located at 4608 Elysian Fields Road, Marshall, TX 75672. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m., also at the funeral home chapel.
