Obituary

Gwendolyn Sue Graham Megason was born February 21, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana, the eldest child of Charleston Opal Graham from Athens, Texas and Leona VirginiaRussell Graham from Jefferson, Texas.

Her parents travelled following her father's work in the oil industry, living in a travel trailer through Missouri, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Illinois, where her brother, Charles Russell Graham was born. Upon returning home to Texas, the Graham family settled in Greggton, now Longview, Texas and welcomed three more daughters, Carla June Jordan, Beverly Beth Graham and Lee Ann Graham. Sue attended school, where she was a drum majorette and was chosen as Most Beautiful and Miss Pine Tree for the Pine Tree High School class of 1957.  Sue met and married Larry Pope Megason in 1960 and shortly after moved to Dallas. After the birth of a daughter, Linda Lee Smith, in 1963, and a move to the Euless, Texas, Sue returned to school and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Texas in Arlington. The Megason family then welcomed the birth of a son, Alan Reid Megason in 1967.

In 1974, the family moved to Richardson, Texas and Sue began a career in the Plano Independent School district in the Special Education field that lasted some 37 years and where she earned many awards and accolades. She also earned her Master's degree in Education from Texas Women's University while working and raising her family.

Sue remarried and spent several years in the early 1980s as a principal in the California State Education system and helping with two step-sons, Michael and Greg Richardson. She returned to Texas in 1987 and resumed her career in Plano. After retirement, Sue returned to East Texas and lived in her beloved lake house on Lone Star Lake, where she enjoyed the wildlife, family, and reading on her back deck.

Sue is survived by daughter, Linda Lee Smith and her husband, Michael, son Alan Reid Megason and his wife Katherine, granddaughter Savannah Lee Wood, great-granddaughters Haven Lily and Annabelle Jewelle, step-sons Michael and Greg Richardson, brother Charles Russell Graham, sister Carla June Jordan and her husband Michael, sister Lee Ann Graham and husband Stephen Fischer, nieces Gretchen Edelman, Holly Graham Murphy, Rachel French, and nephews Michael, David, Tony, Marty, Andy, and Josh Jordan, aunts Lavelle Powell, Ladelle Kay, and Frances Whatley, and uncle Sonny McKnight.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Woodlawn, Texas followed by a celebration of her life at the lake house in Lone Star, Texas.
