A Graveside Funeral Service celebrating the life of Sylvia Katherine Wisdom Bishop, 99, will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, November 6, 2015 at Andrews Cemetery, Karnack, Texas with Brother Tom Ratcliff officiating. Visitation will take place from 12:30pm to 1:30pm Friday, November 6, 2015 at Downs Funeral Home. Mrs. Bishop passed away November 4, 2015. She was born on June 23, 1916 to Jessie Lee and Harriett Forbes Wisdom. On April 3, 1933 she married Charter Cecil Bishop and they celebrated their 60th anniversary in 1994, the year of his death. She was member of Karnack Baptist Church since the 1940's where she served in many capacities. Sylvia worked as a school nurse at Karnack Elementary School; a line worker at Thiokol Chemical Company; a nurse in a nursing home and a hospital; and baked pies for a local restaurant. After she retired, she spent many hours volunteering at Good Shepherd Hospital in Marshall. Sylvia is survived by three children; Charter Cecil Bishop, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Shreveport, LA., Mary Alice Brown of Phoenix, AZ., and Beth Barnett and husband, Maxie of Marshall; two brothers, Jack Wisdom of Longview, and Roy Dan Wisdom of Gilmer; grandchildren; Sheila Reule of Ft. Valley, GA, David Bishop and wife, Anita of Grand Prairie, Teresa Bishop-Smith and husband, Don of Houston, TX, Becky Sheehan and husband, Bryan of Phoenix, AZ, Steven Brown and wife, Amber of Phoenix, AZ., and Claire Barnett of Marshall; twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Charter; parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
