Obituary

Travis Norman Powell, 64, was born June 21, 1961 in Tyler, Texas, the second child to Dayton and Lavelle Powell, and passed away on Sept. 9, 2025 at his home in Lone Oak, Texas.

He was raised in Marshall, Texas, graduated from Marshall High School and attended East Texas Baptist University, where he received his degree in Christian Ministry. He worked many years in the maintenance field around East Texas and didn't hesitate to use those same skills to serve anyone who might need his expertise. He was a dedicated and longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school, ran the sound board during worship services and preached anytime he could.

He was an avid reader of John Grisham and Tom Clancy novels and possessed a strong love for gospel music, particularly the Gaither Vocal Band. He grew up in a large extended family, kept in close contact with them throughout his life, and they were often his favorite topic of conversation.

He is survived by his wife of nine years, Vicki Powell; his sons from his previous marriage to Vikki Dison, Micah and his wife Nicole Powell of Grapevine, TX, and Dylan Powell and his partner Samuel Ehlmann of Beaverton, OR; stepdaughter Rachaele Suggs of Lone Oak, TX; sister, Sonia Powell Assaf and her husband George of Bastrop, TX. He leaves five grandchildren, Andrew Powell and Ryan Powell of Grapevine, Keegan Suggs, Kerigan Suggs and Reed Suggs of Lone Oak.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2025, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Downs Funeral Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson-in-law Craig Suggs.
