Obituary

Vicki Lynn (James) Sargent was born July 16, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee to Rudolph Isom James and Thelma Turner James. She was a graduate of Westwood High School in Memphis, Tennessee. Vicki loved to travel, going sightseeing, antique shopping, garage sales, and going to the beach, which brought her to the gulf coast of Texas, where she met Daniel Ethan (Sarge) Sargent in 1992. Two years later they married on September 1, 1994 in Freeport, Texas. She worked as a Medical Tech for Merritt Medical Manufacturing, where she manufactured heart catheters, and designed one for babies, which the company got a patent for. She then attended Brazosport College, where she studied engineering graphics and design, and went to work for her husband at Accurate Design and Detailing, doing bookkeeping and architectural drawings. In 2006, Vicki and Sarge moved to "God's Country", where the air was fresh and scenery lovely, now calling Karnack their home. She loved the country life, gardening, canning, taking care of her animals, and most importantly, her grandkids, whom she loved to entertain, teaching them how to sing karaoke and the moves to dance by. Vicki was a caregiver to her brother (who was a disabled vet), her sister and her dad. Having a brother, who was a disabled vet, made her very aware of the need for support for our soldiers. SOS organization was very important to her, where she organized packaging boxes to be sent to our soldiers overseas. She appreciated life to the fullest and loved family gatherings. Bonfires were always a great time of gathering during these family get-togethers, especially Ronnie's barbequing. Vicki died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on May 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Andrews Cemetery in Karnack, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 9th at the Downs Funeral Home in Marshall. Survivors are her husband of twenty years, Daniel (Sarge) Sargent of Karnack; mother, Thelma James of Corpus Christi, Texas; children, Jason Charley of Karnack, Rachel Webb of Angleton, Hope Fraker and husband, Edward of Crosby, Daniel Sargent, Jr., of Angleton, and Travis Ware of Abilene; six grandchildren; siblings, Patsy James of Corpus Christi, Ronnie James of Hernardo, Mississippi, Deborah Breazeale and husband, Dennis of Angleton, Louise Horde and husband, L.V. of Hernando, Mississippi, and Larry James of Memphis, Tennessee. Also surviving Vicki is her aunt Maureen Robinson of Memphis, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Jeff Scott, James Sargent, Ricky Scott, Joey Mares, Daniel Sargent, Jr., and Timothy Sargent. Memorials may be made to Willis-Knighton Cancer Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
