A funeral service for Violet "Vi" Bass is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. Interment will follow directly after the service going to Hallsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Downs Funeral Home.

Violet "Vi" Bass, 94, of Marshall, Texas, was born January 4, 1924, to her parents, John Richard Kilpatrick and Annie Melvine Hickey. Mrs. Bass passed away peacefully on October 8, 2018, with her loving family by her side. She was a member of the Waskom Church of Christ. Mrs. Bass was awarded homemaker of the year for Harrison County. She and her husband participated in the Marshall Farmers Market for many years, growing and selling many vegetables. Mrs. Bass was a weight recorder at "TOPS" for many years. Mrs. Bass was a fantastic cook; she was even an author of a cookbook. During her free time she enjoyed gardening and was a great artist. Mrs. Bass loved and cherished her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bass is survived by her children, Twinkle Ryan and Johnnie Hopkins; sister, Frances Buchanan; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Wyman, Rich Kelley, Kevin Hortman, Justin Ryan, Landon Fry, Ashley Mickelson, Adam Hopkins; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
