Obituary

Virginia B. Power, 86, passed away on May 22, 2026. She was born on November 14, 1939, in Marshall, Texas to Edwin Pierce Barnes and Evelyn Irene Osburn Barnes.

Virginia graduated from Marshall High School in 1958 and began her banking career in 1960 at Marshall National Bank. Her dedication and strong work ethic led to an incredible 56-year career in banking before retiring in 2016.

Throughout her life Virginia faithfully served her community through many organizations. She served on the Board of Directors for Harrison County Literacy, United Way, The Marshall Pilot Club, The Marshall National Bank Travel Club and the Salvation Army. She was also honored as one of the very first Ambassadors for the Marshall Chamber of Commerce.

Virginia was a devoted member of New Hebron Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, play the piano, and built many lifelong friendships.

In June 2018, she married William Buddy Power and together they shared a lifetime of love and adventure. She was always ready for the next trip, often with her bags packed and eager to travel wherever life would take them.

She found great joy in sewing, monogramming, and playing the piano. She also loved cooking and entertaining family, especially her granddaughters. Many cherished memories were made over lunches at Stafford House and around her table at home. Her family will always remember her famous saying "Little ladies, don't act like that."

She will be remembered for her servant's heart, love of the family, adventurous spirit and the last impact she made on everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Evelyn Barnes.

She is survived by her husband, William Buddy Power; her daughter, Kim Brown and husband, Jackie; grandchildren, Brittany Lee and husband, Cannon, Blaire Maranto and Bailey Shepherd and husband, Zach; great grandchildren, Jack Maranto, Preston Lee, Landon Lee and Reed Shepherd; cousin whom she thought of as a brother, Bob Osburn and wife, Susan; best friend and traveling partner, Mary Beth (Nana) and Sharon and Kyle Duncan.

She is also survived by William Buddy Power's children, Leslie McPhail and husband, Douglas, Cherry Fisher and husband, Robert and Bill Power and wife, Misty along with other family and friends.
