A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2013 at Yates Memorial Cemetery in Scottsville for Wallace Lavell "Wally" Beard. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Downs Funeral Home. Wally passed away November 14, 2013 in Marshall. Wallace "Wally" Beard was born March 25, 1931 in Huntington, Texas to Hardy Dyle and Mary Elizabeth Roberts Beard. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for several years and then the U.S. Army for 21 years, serving in Vietnam and Korea. Wally married Donella Matlock, and she preceded him in death in 1993. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion #267 of Marshall. Wally was also District Commander of District 12 VFW, Past Commander of District 1 American Legion and a lifetime member of DAV. Wally is survived by his son, Larren Beard of Marshall; daughter, Deborah Lynn Lancaster of Kimberling City, MO; 3 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Verla Snell of Dallas, Lennie Lakey of Cleveland, Winnie Davis and Bennie Collins, both of Tyler, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
